Historical or Biographical Note
Stanford Moore received a B.A. degree in chemistry from Vanderbilt University in 1935 and a Ph.D. in 1938 from the University of Wisconsin.
Moore, a biochemist, was awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1972. His contributions to the field of enzyme chemistry were deemed important in the attempts to create life artificially. He also served as a visiting professor at Vanderbilt School of Medicine in 1968, assisting with the set up of an amino acid analyzer under the auspices of the Health Sciences Advancement Award.
