Historical or Biographical Note
Grace McVeigh graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in biochemistry in 1925. She then launched a 30-year career as a geophysicist for the Atlantic Richfield Co. Studying charts to determine were precious oil might be found, Miss McVeigh's work took her to South America and the Middle East.
A strong and active supporter of Vanderbilt, McVeigh endowed five scholarships for medical students and was one of the original members of the Canby Robinson Society.
