Historical or Biographical Note
Andrew Brown Learned graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Civil Engineering. A native of Natchez, Mississippi, Learned worked as a banker, industrialist, and planter for many years in his hometown. Learned was quite philanthropic: he donated over $100,000 for the Vanderbilt laboratory named in his honor between the years of 1954 and 1958.
