Historical or Biographical Note
Margaret M. Kaser, Ph.D., came to Vanderbilt in 1942 to work in the Department of Biochemistry as an employee of the Tennessee Department of Public Health. The Rockefeller Foundation had granted funds to Vanderbilt Medical School and the Tennessee Department of Public Health to develop methods for the appraisal of human nutrition. She participated in several research studies throughout her stint at Vanderbilt (1942-1948), including studies in Vitamin A and nutrition in pregnancy. Kaser was recognized by a joint meeting of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry and the Canadian Society for Clinical Chemists in 1986 as one of 32 women who have made significant contributions to field of clinical chemistry during the 20th century.
