Historical or Biographical Note
Samuel Earle Johnson, M.D., graduated from the Vanderbilt School of Medicine in 1911. He joined the medical service of the United States Navy in 1917 and held the rank of commander. In 1941, he was in charge of medical service aboard the battleship U.S.S. Arizona, then stationed in San Francisco. Johnson was killed during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
