Historical or Biographical Note
George Johnson, M.D., joined the Vanderbilt School of Medicine faculty in 1925. He continued his education at Vanderbilt, completing a residency from 1925 to 1928 and later becoming Associate Professor of Surgery. With the onslaught of World War II, Johnson joined the United States Navy. Emerging from military service with the rank of Captain, Johnson became Chief of the Surgical Service of the Thayer Veterans Hospital. He passed away in 1948.
