Historical or Biographical Note
William W. Franklin joined Vanderbilt University Medical Center as executive director of Medical Center Development in December 1989. Franklin came to Vanderbilt from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, where he had been vice president for development for a decade. At Vanderbilt, Franklin directed a staff of thirty-one and coordinated fundraising programs for the Schools of Medicine and Nursing, the Children's Hospital, and Vanderbilt Hospital. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, having earned degrees in journalism and management in 1966. Franklin passed away in 1996.
