Historical or Biographical Note
Dr. Robert M. Foote attended the University of North Dakota before entering Vanderbilt University for his B.A. in 1937 and his M.D. in 1941. He was commissioned by the U.S. Public Health Service during World War II and served as medical director of the Division of Maternal and Child Health Services and the Crippled Children's Service of the Tennessee Department of Health from 1949 to 1952.
He served on numerous teaching staffs, including those of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Peabody College, Aquinas Junior College, and St. Thomas School of Nursing. At Vanderbilt, Foote served as Assistant Clinical Professor in General Preventive Medicine and Public Health/Community Health. He was on the Vanderbilt faculty from 1954 to 1959 and on the clinical faculty from 1959 until his passing in 1967.
