Historical or Biographical Note

Charles Norris Cowden graduated from the Medical Department of Vanderbilt University in 1886 and practiced general medicine and surgery in Tennessee. He established a partnership with Dr. M.C. McGannon, a renowned surgeon, in Nashville in 1906. Cowden was appointed to several teaching positions at the University of Nashville, including that of the Chair of Gynecology. He is also a former president of the Tennessee State Medical Association.
