Historical or Biographical Note
Raymond Jeffrey Council attended Lambuth College in Jackson, Tennessee, then moved to Nashville to receive his master's degree from Vanderbilt Divinity School and a Clinical Pastoral Education from Vanderbilt University Medical Center. A Methodist minister since 1971, Council spent 25 years as chaplain and director of pastoral services for the Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute. Before joining MTMI in 1978, Mr. Council worked at the Tennessee School for the Blind and was a chaplain with Tennessee Youth Center.
