Historical or Biographical Note
John E. Chapman graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1958. He completed his post-graduate training in internal medicine at the University of Kansas, including a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical pharmacology, psychopharmacology, and toxicology. Dr. Chapman served as Dean at Vanderbilt from 1975 until 2001. Recognizing his contributions to the academic and educational setting of medicine, the Karolinska Institute of Stockholm, Sweden, awarded him an honorary Doctor of Medicine. When Dr. Chapman retired as Dean in 2001, he assumed the position of Associate Vice-Chancellor for Medical Alumni Affairs.
