Historical or Biographical Note
Dr. Stephen Schillig gradauted from Johns Hopkins University and joined the Vanderbilt University Department of Cardiology in 1957, a position he held until his 1998 retirement. He also served as assistant chief of the medical service at Metro General Hospital and spent time on the staff of the Veterans Administration Hospital in Nashville. Dr. Schillig's work in developing Metro General's Department of Emergency Medical services earned him a distinguished service award from the Tennessee Medical Association. He passed away from cancer in 2001.
