Biographical / Historical
Dr. Robert Winston Ikard was a practicing thoracic surgeon in Nashville since 1971 including at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Nashville. He was a graduate of Vanderbilt University in 1960 and Vanderbilt Medical School in 1963. In addition to being a well respected surgeon, he authored many nationally and regionally published scientific and historical articles and books. A native of Columbia, Tennessee, Dr. Ikard was drawn to topics he found to be of intrest and worth his time and effort to research, write, and share with others. Notable titles include: “No More Social Lynchings” which delved into the Columbia Race Riot, "Just for Fun" which explored the history of women's AAU basketball, and "Near You: Francis Craig, Dean of Southern Maestros," which tells the story of Nashville band leader Francis Craig.
