Biographical / Historical
Ellen Hrabovsky grew up as an adult among five siblings and was the first and only woman in her medical school class at Vanderbilt University. She was the first woman intern in general surgery at Ohio State University. Her first stay as a surgeon lasted in Vanderbilt until 1986 and later went back to Ohio State for advanced specialized studies. She resumed her career at Vanderbilt in 1992. Due to the advancing arthritis she ended her career as a surgeon and retired as program director of general surgery at Ruby Memorial. She is an instrument of creativity for Habitat for Humanity in Monongalia County.
