Biographical / Historical
E. Gordon Gee was born in Utah and studied at the University of Utah and Columbia University. He served as a 7th chancellor of Vanderbilt University from 2000 - 2007. His brief tenure had its successes, but he was also followed by controversy and criticism. On March 11, 2003, the Vanderbilt student satirical publication The Slant created a fake version of the student newspaper The Vanderbilt Hustler containing the headline “GEE DEAD.” This same publication earlier that year famously depicted the chancellor as nude on the cover of its January 22, 2003 issue.
