Biographical / Historical
Richard France was born in Baltimore, MD on Feb 18, 1905. He completed his B.S. degree from Princeton University in 1926 and got his M.D. degree from John Hopkins University in 1930. He came to Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1947 as an Assistant Professor and rose to the postion to Professor of Medicine, Emeritus in 1976.
A WWII Navy veteran where he attained the rank of Captain, he saw service in the Pacific, including on Guadalcanal. After the war, he became chief of medical service, and head of cardiology, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Nashville, from which he retired in 1969. He died in Williamsburg, VA on January 3, 1993.
