Biographical / Historical

Ebert was a psychiatrist-in-chief at VUMC and had been chairman of psychiatry since 1984. During his tenure as a department chair he reorganized the psychiatry program at Vanderbilt, adding clinical services and a broader research base. He developed a divisional structure in the department that added specialized programs in addiction psychiatry, mental health policy studies, geriatric psychiatry, psychopharmacology and forensic psychiatry. In 2003 he left Vanderbilt to become professor of psychiatry at Yale, chief of staff of the VA Connecticut Healthcare System and associate dean for veterans affairs at the School of Medicine.
