Biographical / Historical
Oscar B. Crofford was born in 1930, obtained his B.A. in 1952 from Vanderbilt University and M.D. in 1955 from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He served as an medical officer in the U. S. Navy during 1957-59. He began his academic career as an Assistant professor and became Professor of Medicine in Vanderbilt University in 1972. Known internationally for his work diabeties research, he was elected as the president of the American Diabeties Association in 1981. He retired from Vanderbilt in 1995, and embarked on a second career as a cattle rancher.
