Daniel Abbey biographical file
Abstract
One folder of correspondence between Dr. Daniel Abbey's son (Stanton T. Abbey) and Rudolph Kampmeier regarding the donation to the Medical School of Dr. Abbey's University of Nashville diploma (Dr. of Medicine) granted in 1855 and signed by the Medical faculty. A copy of the diploma along with a translation are included in the folder.

Historical or Biographical Note
Dr. Abbey was born in Nashville.He was a graduate of the University of Nashville in 1855. Dr. Abbey was a personal friend of Robert E. Lee; however, their friendship was severed by a disagreement over slavery. During the Civil War, Dr. Abbey organized the 27th Missouri Regiment and was killed in action near Natchez, MS. The letters also include information about Abbey's son.
