Sheldon Malcolm Wolff 1931-1994 was an authority on infectious diseases, and an advocate for increased federal funding for AIDS research. He received his M.D. from Vanderbilt in 1957, and completed residency training at Vanderbilt, and at the Bronx Municipal Hospital. Following training he went to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases where he stayed for 17 years, serving ten years as Clinical Director. His research there focused on the treatment of fevers from infectious diseases like Wegener\'s granulomatosis. Throughout his career, he served in leadership roles on numerous advisory panels for the federal government, including and Institute of Medicine Review panel that urged greater funding for AIDS research. At the time of his death in Boston on February 9 1994, he was chairman of the Department of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine, and Physician-In-Chief of the New England Medical Center.
