Historical or Biographical Note

William James Coles was born in Wilson County, Tennessee in June 1836 the sone of Samuel Coles and Sarah Walker. He graduated in 1859 from the Medical Department of the University of Nashville. He practiced medicine in Russellville, Logan County, Kentucky, until 1884 when he moved to Nashville to practice. In 1888 he received a second medical degree from the Medical Department of Vanderbilt University. He later moved to Goodlettsville, where he died March 26, 1914.
