Historical or Biographical Note

Dr. Robert Norman Buchanan, a native of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, graduated from Peabody College and received his medical degree from the old University of Nashville in 1905. Immediately upon graduation he began his medical practice in Sumner County, Tennessee's Shackle Island community and continued general practice there until his retirement in 1946. He is the son of former Tennessee governor John Price Buchanan as well as the father of Nashville dermatologist Robert Norman Buchanan Jr.
