Historical or Biographical Note
Dr. Martin Blaser was born in New York City in 1948. He received his M.D. at the NYU School of Medicine in 1973 and served his residency and fellowship at the University of Colorado. For two years he was an epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control, and he once served as the chief of Infectious Diseases at the VA Hospital in Denver. Blaser began work at Vanderbilt University as the chief of the division of Infectious Diseases in 1989 and has also served as professor of medicine and professor of microbiology and immunology. Dr. Blaser has worked extensively in gastric bacterial injury research. Dr. Blaser left Vanderbilt in 2000 to become Chair of the Dept. of Medicine at NYU.
