Historical or Biographical Note
Dr. George S. Allen graduated from Wesleyan University and from Washington University School of Medicine. He served an internship at Duke University and completed his training at the University of Minnesota, where he also earned a Ph.D. He then taught at Johns Hopkins and came to Vanderbilt in 1984 as Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery. Dr. Allen is the first holder of the William F. Meacham Chair in Neurological Surgery.
