Historical or Biographical Note
Ben H. Marshall, M.D., graduated from Vanderbilt Medical School in 1935, and he established a medical/surgical practice in Fayetteville, TN. In 1942 he joined the Vanderbilt 300th General Hospital Unit and served in Italy until October 1945. Dr. Marshall served as a key member of the 300th General Hospital 15th Evac Surgical Team April 1945 in Italy's Apennine Mountains in support of the 5th Army 10th Mountain Division. His son, Ben Marshall Jr., documents his father's surgical accomplishments in an unpublished manuscript entitled, "Italy 1945-the Final Push." This manuscript is available in Historical Collections, Eskind Biomedical Library.

Biographical file includes a manuscript written by Dr. Marshall's son, Ben Marshall, Jr., concerning his father's experiences as a surgeon during World War II. Copies of Dr. Marshall's original letters concerning his war experiences are included, as are many photographs.
