Historical or Biographical Note
Dr. Floyd W. Denny, Jr. received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1946. He held faculty positions in pediatrics at the University of Minnesota, Vanderbilt University, Case Western Reserve University, as well as the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he served as Chair of Pediatrics for twenty years. As an investigator, Dr. Denny was a pioneer in the study of streptococcal disease. He and his colleagues conducted pivotal research in the prevention of rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease.He received the prestigious Johnd Howland Award in 1995. Dr. Denny passed away in 2001.
