Historical or Biographical Note

William H. Witt (1866-1954) was a physician, teacher, and writer. He received his M.D. from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1894. He then was an Intern at the Poly Clinic in New York City in 1895. He then returned to Vanderbilt, first as an Assistant Demonstrator of Anatomy then as a Lecturer in Anatomy from 1895 -1903. He then was a Professor of Materia Medica and Therapeutics (1903-1911), a Professor of Medicine and Clinical Medicine (1911-1925), and a Clinical Professor of Medicine (1925-1938) Dr. Witt was also a Major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1917-1918, and he organized Hospital No. 18 for the Vanderbilt Unit in Nevers, France. He died in Nashville on September 1, 1954.
