Historical or Biographical Note
Anne J. Sweeney (1914-1984) was a medical social worker and author. She received her MSSW from Catholic University in 1936. She was a social worker at Vanderbilt University Hospital from 1937-51. She then served as a medical consultant for the Tennessee Department of Health from 1951-1957. She returned to Vanderbilt first as an instructor and later was promoted to Assistant Professor of Preventative Medicine from 1957-1973. She also was an investigator and research coordinator of the NIH project "Experimental Studies in Hereditary Deafness," 1966-1974. A native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, she died in Nashville on December 8, 1984.
