Historical or Biographical Note
Dr. Robert Quinn (1912-1999) made important contributions to the study of streptococcus, and he studied with John Shapiro immune reactions to differentiate rheumatoid arthritis and rheumatic disease. He received his M.D., C.M., from McGill University in 1938. Dr. Quinn was Professor and Chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine from 1952-1978. He became Professor Emeritus at Vanderbilt in 1978. He died in Nashville on October 10, 1999.
