Historical or Biographical Note
Orrea F. Pye (1907-1998) was a nutritionist and professor. She received her M.S. from Syracuse in 1934 and later received her Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1942. She held various teaching positions starting as an Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama from 1938-1942. Pye then became Professor of Nutrition at the University of North Carolina in 1942. In 1944 she returned to the Teacher's College at Columbia University, first as an associate professor from 1944-1959, and then as a professor from 1959-1972. She died in Mesa, Arizona on December 19, 1998.
