Historical or Biographical Note

William Norman Pearson Jr. (1924-1968) was a researcher, author, and professor. He received his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1951. He began teaching at Vanderbilt in the Department of Biochemistry in 1950 starting as an instructor and rising to the rank of professor. He also served as Associate Director of the Division of Nutrition at Vanderbilt from 1960-1968, as well as secretary for the American Institute of Nutrition from 1966-1968. He received the Mead Johnson Award from the AIN in 1967. He was a Consultant to the ICNND and was a member of the following organizations: A.M.A. Council on Foods, Food and Nutrition Board; NAS, NRC; American Association for the Advancement of Science; and American Public Health Association. He died in an automobile accident in Nashville on November 28, 1968.

Collection was likely donated in 1977 as reported in the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Library Annual Report 1977-1978.. This collection (among others) was lised among the 14 manuscript collections that were part of the colletion as of 30 Jun 1978. That no special mention was made of it in the report section for items donated in fiscal year 1977-78,, it iis assumed that it was donated prior to that time.
