Historical or Biographical Note

Born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on October 6, 1887, Dr. James Matthew Oliver was a physician who received his M.D. from Vanderbilt in 1911. He was Superintendent of the Davidson County Tuberculosis Hospital from 1913-1916. Her served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1917-1919. Following military service he had a private practice in Portland, Tennessee from 1919 until his death there on January 11, 1941.
