Historical or Biographical Note
Harold Hanson Mitchell (1886-1966) was a researcher, author, and educator. He was a pioneer in the use of statistics in nutrition experimentation, and he was an early proponent of protein supplements. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois-Urbana in 1915. He was Head of the Department of Animal Nutrition at the University of Illinois from 1929-1952. He also served as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Nutrition from 1941-1944. He also received the following awards: Borden Award, AIN 1945; Morrison Award, American Society of Animal Production, 1960; Osborne and Mendel Award, AIN 1966. He died on March 28 in Champaign, Illinois.
