Historical or Biographical Note
Mary Helen Rue Goodloe (1915-1983) was a research nutritionist, clinician, and author. She is best known for her work with atherosclerosis and was among the first to recommend specialized diet programs for athletes. Born in Bedford, Virginia on December 28, 1915, she graduated from the University of Tennessee with a B.S. degree in 1938 and completed graduate work at Florida State College for Women in 1939. She worked as a research nutritionist for the Georgia Department of Human Resources from 1957-1967. She died in Decatur, Georgia on June 20, 1983.
