Historical or Biographical Note
He received his MD from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1916. He began a long career at the Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids Michigan in 1916 as an intern, eventually becoming a surgeon and instructor. He worked at the Butterworth Hospital until 1967. He was also part of the Army Medical Corps from 1916-1918, and he was part of the Visiting Surgeons' Club at the Mayo Clinic from 1918-1919.
