Biographical / Historical
Dr. William H. Hartmann was a pathologist and held several academic and administrative appointments throughout his career. He was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pathology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine from 1973 to 1987. In addition to his tenure at Vanderbilt, Dr. Hartmann served as Assistant Professor of Pathology and later as Associate Professor of Pathology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine from 1961-1967. Dr. Hartmann served as Professor of Pathology at the University of Tennessee School of Medicine in Memphis before coming to Vanderbilt. He also served as Director of Pathology services at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and Clinical Professor of Pathology at the University of South Florida . He was a member of several professional organizations including the American Board of Pathology, where he served as Executive Vice President. Dr. Hartman was also an active member of the ACGME and USCAP. Dr. Hartmann died on September 24, 2016 He was 85.
