Biographical / Historical

John Giglio Coniglio, Ph.D., was a longtime member of the Department of Biochemistry, and was known for his research in lipid chemistry and metabolism. He received his B.S. degree in chemistry at Furman University in 1940 and his Ph.D. in biochemistry at Vanderbilt University in 1949. He was appointed Professor of Biochemistry at Vanderbilt in 1963 and was elevated to Emeritus staus in 1990 at the time of his retirement. He was a member of several professional ogrnizations and served as vice-chairman of the Southeastern Section of the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine. Dr. Coniglio died in Nashville, TN February 26, 2001. He was 81.
