Collection of materials compliled by Dr. John Chapman during his service as Dean of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine from 1975 to 2001. Materials consist primarily of memorabilia, and materials realated to speeches and lectures he gave during his tenure as Dean.

Biographical / Historical
John Edmon Chapman was born in Springfield, Missouri July 5, 1931. He graduated from Southwest Missouri State University in 1954 and received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1958. He completed his post-graduate training in internal medicine at the University of Kansas, including a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical pharmacology, psychopharmacology, and toxicology. Dr. Chapman served as Dean at Vanderbilt from 1975 until 2001. Recognizing his contributions to the academic and educational setting of medicine, the Karolinska Institute of Stockholm, Sweden, awarded him an honorary Doctor of Medicine. When Dr. Chapman retired as Dean in 2001, he assumed the position of Associate Vice-Chancellor for Medical Alumni Affairs. Dr. Chapman died in Nashville October 13, 2004 from complicatons of Parkinson's disease.
