Historical or Biographical Note
She received her DSc from the University College of London in 1904. She then became a member of the Lister Institute of Preventative Medicine in London, an organization she was involved with from 1905-1975. At the Lister Institute she worked with Sir Charles Martin and developed the Chick-Martin test for the efficiency of disinfectants.
In 1918 she was elected to the Physiological Society. She served as Secretary of the Accessory Food Factors Committee of the Medical Research Council from 1918-1945. She also acted as Secretary of the League of Nations Health Section Committee on the Physiological Bases of Nutrition from 1934-1937. Dr. Chick was also a founding member of the Nutrition Society in 1941. Later she was president of the Nutrition Society from 1956-1959. In 1949 she became Dame of the British Empire.
