Historical or Biographical Note

James W. Ward (1909-1993) was a researcher, author, and professor. He received both his Ph.D. (1935) and M.D. (1940) from Vanderbilt. He held many positions during his career at Vanderbilt including going from Assistant Professor to Professor of Anatomy (1940-1974); Acting Head of the Department of Anatomy (1960-1963); and Professor of Neurology (1970-1974). He was also President of the Southern Society of Electroencephalography from 1955-1956. He was a member of the following: American Academy of Neurology, American Association of Anatomists, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Tennessee Academy of Science (President, 1963-1966), and the Southern Society of Anatomists (President, 1965-1966).
