Historical or Biographical Note
Dr. William D. Haggard, Jr. (1872-1940) was a surgeon, physician, and author. He was the author of many articles and books. He also was a key leader in the American Medical Association, Southern Surgical Association, and American College of Surgery. He was a Professor of Gynecology and Abdominal Surgery at the University of Tennessee from 1901-1912. Then he was Professor of Clinical Surgery at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine from 1912-1940. He also served as President for the Southern Surgical Association (1916), the American Medical Association (1925-1926), and the American College of Surgery (1933.)
