Historical or Biographical Note
Dr. Joe W. Grisham (1931- ) is a pathologist and Vanderbilt alumnus. He received his BA in Chemistry (1953) and his MD (1957) from Vanderbilt University. He then interned at the Washington University School of Medicine from 1957-1960. Then at Washington University Dr. Grisham was an instructor in pathology (1960-1961), an Assistant Professor (1961-1967), an Associate Professor (1967-1969), and a Professor of Pathology and Anatomy (1969-1973). He also served as a Lieutenant Commander for the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1961-1963. During his time at Washington University, Dr. Grisham was an Assistant Pathologist (1961-1972) and Associate Pathologist (1972-1973) at the Barnes and Allied Hospitals. In 1973 he left Washington University to become a Professor of Pathology and Medicine and Chair of the Department of Pathology at the University of North Carolina.
