Immediate Source of Acquisition
Dr. Karla Johns relates that this was used in the Vanderbilt Departement of Ophthalmology and is likely from the the late 1960s when the department was established. When it was no longer being used, Dr. Johns rescued it from being disposed of with the intention of tranferring it to the History of Medicine Collection.
Physical Description
Tonometer contained in metal case, and issue of Clinical Symposia (Volume 26 Number 2 1976) dedicated to the diagnosis and management of glaucomas. It contains a description and illustrations of how a tonometer is used.
