Stories of St Nicholas of Bari, Painting is a part of the Perugia Altarpiece which depicts the miracles of Saint Nicholas of Bari, the fourth century Christian saint and martyr. This predella depicts the miracle of Saint Nicholas saving a ship from shipwreck when the sailors aboard prayed to him. The scene takes place at a port with groups of men in various scenes of nautical activity and a city appears in the far corner of the painting. The ship in danger appears to the right of the frame, under dramatic dark lighting, in which Saint Nicholas appears above them in clerical vestments., circa 1437
