Scope and Contents From the Collection: An account book belonging to Santiago Arroyo, of Popayán, Colombia (originally named Santiago Pérez de Valencia y Arroyo, he changed his patronym by congressional fiat in 1825). Entries begin on Apr. 28, 1808, and continue sporadically until Sept. 12, 1843. The book profiles his (and his spouse's) business interests, their hacienda Guazavara, and their gold mines, and includes various personal outlays to members of his extended family, which included most of the social and political ruling...
