This is collection of papers of Herbert Drennon, Vanderbilt graduate (M.A. 1917) and professor of English. He was a longtime professor of English and Head of the English department at Mississippi State University (1938-1961).

Biographical Note - Herbert Drennon
Herbert Drennon was born August 3, 1893 in Moscow, Arkansas. He received his B.A. in English at Henderson-Brown University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas in 1915, his M.A. in English and Philosophy from Vanderbilt University in 1919, and his Ph.D. in English Literature at the University of Chicago in 1928. Dr. Drennon taught at Mississippi State University, Vanderbilt University, and Murray State University. Serving as the Dean of the College and Graduate School and Head of the English Department at Mississippi State University. He retired in 1961. Dr. Drennon died in Laguna Hills, California on December 24, 1974.
In 1964, Herbert Drennon made a generous contribution to Vanderbilt University for the purchase of library books honoring two of his former Vanderbilt professors, Dr. W. F. Tillett and Dr. Herbert C. Sanborn.
A copy of Herbert Drennon’s Master’s Thesis and Dissertation are available in Special Collections. In 1975, Mississippi State University published a volume of poems written by Herbert Drennon.
