Gilbert Sigaux Collection
Scope and Contents
The Gilbert Sigaux Collection includes almost 75,000 items on authors, directors, actors, and theaters, which Sigaux meticulously arranged in files and dossiers. These files contain press clippings, programs, posters, correspondence, publicity releases, Sigaux's personal notes, and articles from journals, many of which are no longer available.

Conditions Governing Access
The physical materials from this collection may be viewed only in the reading room of Vanderbilt’s Special Collections and University Archives. Materials should be requested two to three days in advance to facilitate easier access. Contact specialcollections@vanderbilt.edu to schedule an appointment.
Biographical / Historical
Gilbert Sigaux (1918-1982) was an editor, critic, author, and professor. He edited over one hundred literary and dramatic texts for publication and served as literary editor and consultant for several French publishing companies. His prefaces, critical notes, and other editorial additions appear in works by authors and playwrights of French, U.S., British, Russian, and other national origin. He collaborated on anthologies, composed entries for reference works, contributed articles to journals and newspapers, wrote essays, and published four novels. He also participated in radio programs and gave lectures on literary, theatrical, and cultural subjects. Finally, as a professor, Gilbert Sigaux taught French literature, theater, poetry, criticism, and theater history both in France and abroad.
