Biographical / Historical
Eugene Carrier (1946-1997) was a New Orleans Fifth Ward-born pianist and organist of Creole origin. He was known for blending Zydeco music that he heard growing up with the jazz and blues genres. He attended and further refined his skills at North Texas State University as a jazz studies major. He is best known as a bluesman who played with Lightning Hopkins, Albert King, and, most famously, B. B. King.
B. B. King, born Riley B. King (1925-2015), was an American blues guitarist, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He cultivated a sophisticated style of soloing based on fluid string bending, shimmering vibrato, and staccato picking that influenced many later blues electric guitar players. King was a member of the inaugural class of inductees to the Blues Hall of Fame in 1980. In 1987, he earned a Grammy Award for lifetime achievement and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. King also received the National Medal of Arts (1990) and was a Kennedy Center honoree (1995).
