This collection contains correspondence, campaign materials, memorabilia, and other items related to John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Herbert Humphrey, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Sr., Al Gore, Jr., Joe L. Evins, Jim Sasser, the Democratic Party, and other politicians.

The physical materials from this collection may be viewed only in the reading room of Vanderbilt’s Special Collections and University Archives. Biographical / Historical
The Knox Pitts Family Political Collection is comprised of state and national political materials and memorabilia from Knox Pitts Jr. and Mildred Steele Pitts, and their sons, Knox Pitts III and John Steele Pitts. Hailing from Shelbyville, Tennessee, the Pitts family were extremely active in the Democratic party, both at the state and federal level. Various members of the Pitts family attended every Democratic National Convention from 1956 to 2016, and worked on campaigns for Representative Joe L. Evins, President Jimmy Carter, Senator Jim Sasser, and Representative Jim Cooper, among others.
