Biographical / Historical
Caroline "Danske" Bedinger was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, to Caroline Lawrence and Ambassador Henry Bedinger on November 19, 1854, and the family moved to the United States in 1857. In 1877, Danske married Adam Stephen Dandridge. Her first poem, "Chrysanthemum," was published in Godey's Lady's Book in 1885. She published her first book, Joy and Other Poems, in 1888, and her second book, Rose Brake, in 1890. She went on to write several articles about gardening and American history. Dandridge died in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, on June 4, 1914.
